In Australia, we've discovered our very own Studio McGee in the form of Jo, who goes by the Instagram handle @jo.marie_blissfulbuilds. Jo has covered all things interior, DIY & home design on her Instagram page for the last 6 years.
In this exclusive interview, Jo takes us through her inspiring new build project, sharing insights, challenges, and how she pulled it all together to bring her vision to life.
The Dream Takes Shape: "Modern Meets Traditional"
Jo's project can be best described in her own words: "Modern meets Traditional." With a passion for home building and a desire to create a new space for the next chapter in their lives, Jo and her fiancé embarked on a remarkable journey.
Navigating Challenges: A Test of Resilience
The journey wasn't without its hurdles. Jo encountered significant delays due to trade and material shortages, extending the project timeline to over 12 months. But, she had utter grit and determination on her side. "We just had to keep pushing through, knowing it would all be worth it in the end - and it was!" she told us.
Balancing Career and Renovations
Jo owns her own business which provided the flexibility needed to immerse herself in the renovation. Late nights in the office were common as she juggled designing, on-site work, project management and her day job!
Design Harmony: A Shared Vision
Collaborating with a partner on a renovation project can sometimes lead to creative differences. However, Jo and her fiancé found harmony in their shared vision. While Jo took the lead in design, her fiancé contributed by handling various DIY tasks.
TileCloud: A Key Player in the Project
Jo discovered TileCloud during her project, drawn by the beautiful range of tiles. Although she didn't visit the showroom in person, ordering samples online was a seamless and enjoyable experience. "I was hesitant on purchasing tiles online, but it was such a fantastic and easy experience, so I would definitely do it again!" Jo shares.
Hands-On Approach: A Collaborative Effort
Jo's project was a combination of hiring specialised trades for most aspects while also tackling significant tasks themselves. Her fiancé played a pivotal role in the build, from exterior work to landscaping and even painting the entire house inside and out with Jo.
