FAQ

How much underfloor heating do I need?
Calculating how much underfloor heating you need is different to doing the same for tiles — you only need to account for covering the available, usable floor area. The Thermonet system doesn’t run under floor-mounted fixtures like baths, toilets or floor-mounted vanities. You also won’t need to allow for breakage as you would when calculating your tile needs, so the total square metres of your underfloor heating kit will be lower than the total square metres of your tiles. It’s important to note that you can never cut any of the cables to reduce the length of your underfloor heating system — so be mindful to purchase the correct-sized kit to fit your space. If you’re not sure which size kit to get, reach out to our friendly team for advice.
Is underfloor heating expensive to run in Australia?
You may think the cost of running underfloor heating is prohibitively expensive in Australia — but that’s simply not the case. Thermogroup’s Thermonet 200W in-screed heating costs around 5c per square metre per hour to run. When you also account for the fact that tiles naturally conduct and retain heat, you can warm a room quite quickly!
Can you put underfloor heating under tiles?
Absolutely! ThermoGroup’s Thermonet underfloor heating is ideal for under tiles. Although the Thermonet 200W system is designed to be installed beneath a screed, it is also completely safe to be installed directly below the tiles, as with the 150W system.
Does underfloor heating heat a room?
When used under tiles, underfloor heating is very effective at heating a room. As the tiles conduct and retain heat, they radiate warmth from the ground up. This results in a cosy, comfortable temperature that is consistent throughout the whole space.
How long does underfloor heating take to warm up?
How long your underfloor heating takes to warm up can depend on a bunch of variables, including the wattage of your chosen system as well as your floor’s substrate and build-up. Generally speaking, you can expect your tiles to be at maximum toastiness after around 45-60 minutes. To heat the whole room, you’re looking at around 60-90 minutes.
