Alexa Nice - Real Life Reno

Layla Sawyer -
Alexa from The Alexa Nice designed and transformed 6 apartments into beautiful modern art deco spaces. For the goal of short stays through Airbnb in the tourist bucket list area of Bondi Beach, she has used a mix of our Newport Sage Green range throughout the 6 apartments.

Tell us a bit about who you are and what you do?
Thank you for featuring our work! I am Alexa Nice, the founder and creative director of Studio A-N. Studio A-N is an Australian design studio specialising in the creation of considered residential, hotel and nationally acclaimed commercial spaces. Offering a carefully curated collection of design services. We believe in the beauty of simplicity, and our designs reflect this ethos - clean lines, minimal finishes, and timeless organic palettes that will stand the test of time.

What inspired you to pursue a design carer?
Design is in my blood! I can vividly remember drawing house plans and detailed furniture drawings at 7 years old, so it's no real surprise I'm in this industry. I'm grateful that my expertise has progressed even more from just interiors to also business, marketing, branding and creative direction.

What did you renovate?
This project is actually very unique as it is a boutique art deco building in the heart of Bondi Beach with a mix of 6 x 1 & 2 bedroom apartments. We completely gutted each apartment and transformed the whole development.

What motivated your clients to renovate?
After several discussions, and assessing the real estate market with the client it was decided to transform these long term rentals into a boutique short stay Air BNB business. Needless to say the result has been incredible, with all apartments booked out almost 12 months in advance.

How would you describe the style of this renovation?
Contemporary with a twist of Retro Coastal Chic.

Talk us through the process you take in the planning stages of the renovation!
I tailor my design process to suit the individual needs of the client and project. If you want to know more, you can book in a free 15 Minute consultation online with me 😉

Were there any delays? How long did the renovations take?
Oh my goodness there are too many delays and set-backs to even mention for this project. It was designed and executed right as the COVID-19 pandemic hit. I did the design entirely online, and finally got to meet my client in real life over 12 months later when the refurbishment was completed.

What was the most challenging part of the renovation? Did anything go wrong?
Not being able to get flooring, stock, joinery materials, lockdowns, border closures, and trades were just some of the many challenges.

Did you come into the TileCloud showroom to look around at tiles? Did you order samples?
I predominantly work via online these days. I think because I have been doing this for so long now, and with the technology we use as designers I can visualise how the tiles look in my head very easily. My client loved visiting the Sydney showroom, it was important for them to touch and feel the selections and see them insitu before fully executing.

Why did you choose TileCloud / What did you enjoy best about the TileCloud experience?
I selected TileCloud for this project because of the stunning products, affordability, and great customer service.
