Why get Zellige tiles

Kitchen splashback. The gloss finish bounces light back into the room, so a splashback earns its keep even on the wall behind a dark benchtop or a run of matte black tapware. The subtle variation in each tile also means small chips or grout lines from daily cooking splash-back don't stand out the way they would on a flat, uniform surface. It works just as well as a feature in a kitchen that opens onto a living space.

Bathroom feature wall. Run it behind a vanity or up a niche and the tile does the styling work on its own, no extra art or shelving needed to make the wall feel finished. It pairs particularly well with warm metal tapware and timber vanities in a bathroom, since the glaze picks up ambient light rather than reflecting it flat.

What's trending right now

Zellige hasn't gone anywhere in 2026, it's just splitting into more specific looks. Micro-format Zellige, smaller than the standard subway tiles format, is showing up in neutral and bolder tonal colourways as the next step down in scale. Checkerboard and striped layouts using two Zellige tones are having a moment in bathrooms and powder rooms, echoing Art Deco and provincial styling rather than the plain single-colour wall, and pairing well with a broader mediterranean tiles-leaning scheme. Tiled kitchen benchtops, a genuine callback to the 1970s and 80s, are also resurfacing as a budget-friendlier alternative to stone, often in glossy Zellige with a matching or contrasting grout.

None of that makes the plain single-tone wall obsolete. It's the version of Zellige least likely to look dated in five years, because the appeal (light-catching glaze, natural colour movement) doesn't depend on a pattern trend holding up.

Is Zellige right for your space

Our Zellige range is a wall tile, made for splashbacks, feature walls and niches rather than floors. It's not the tile we'd point you to for an outdoor kitchen or an exposed pool deck either. Handmade glazes can fade unevenly under direct, sustained Australian sun, and the surface isn't rated for the foot traffic or slip requirements of an outdoor floor. Inside, Zellige suits kitchens, bathrooms, powder rooms and any feature wall that gets moderate handling rather than constant foot traffic or heavy water exposure.
