Q & A with Sarita holland

Layla Sawyer-

When content creator Sarita Holland decided it was time to update her teens' upstairs bathroom, she knew exactly why. The space worked fine, but it was the most dated room in the house, dark, cramped and hardly inspiring for three teenagers. With her daughter deep into beauty and skincare, Sarita wanted the kids to have a bathroom they actually enjoyed using and hopefully stop taking over her ensuite every morning.

At just 2.2 x 2.5 metres, the room felt tight and pokey. Sarita brought in designer Kate from Stylosaurus to help reimagine every inch. The brief was fun, practical and with a slight feminine lean. The old double shower took up too much space, so removing it instantly opened up the room. Even with a budget just over 20k, Sarita managed to stay on track, including the designer, builder and a new skylight.

Living through the renovation with a family of five was a juggle, especially with trades onsite while Sarita filmed content at home. Thankfully her builder managed all trades, which kept the process organised and calm. The biggest challenge came when she discovered the roof structure could not support the large skylight she had originally hoped for. Even so, a smaller skylight made an immediate difference. The bathroom finally had the natural light it had always lacked.

Choosing fixtures was the easy part. Sarita’s designer Kate had worked with Yabby on previous projects and already had samples on hand, which meant Sarita could see the finishes in her own light before committing. Knowing the range was always in stock and offered beautiful finishes at an achievable price gave her confidence. The Antique Brass tapware quickly became the favourite because it added warmth and character. With quick replies to questions and smooth delivery, choosing Yabby made a big job feel far less stressful.

Four weeks later the bathroom was complete. Her daughter proudly shows it off to friends, her twin boys are simply happy to have their own space again and Sarita finally has her ensuite back. As she puts it, seeing your space come to life is such a buzz once all the mess is over.

Sarita’s advice for first time renovators: Plan early, order samples so you can see how finishes look in your own light, hire good tradies and bring in a professional if it fits your budget. Always allow a little extra time and money for surprises and enjoy the process because watching a room transform is incredibly rewarding.
